The Dziołak / Stankiewicz duo waIMG_4270-Edit copy-1s founded in 2011 by two musicians affiliated with the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music: Jacek Dziołak (Mirosław Pokrzywiński’s clarinet class) and Mateusz Stankiewicz (Klaudiusz Baran’s accordion class). Since the very beginning, they have performed under the artistic guidance of Rafał Grząka. The artists emphasize that they are a team not only on stage – their playing together was a consequence of a long friendship. They have won significant prizes in national and international chamber ensemble competitions: 2nd prize at the International Competition in Poprad (Slovakia), 1st prize at the Mława Accordion Music Festival, 2nd prize at the International Competition in Vilnius (Lithuania), 1st prize at the Accordion Confrontations in Görlitz, 2nd prize at the International Competition in Klingenthal (Germany), 1st prize at the 14th International Juliusz Zarębski Competition in Łomianki and a mention of honour at the Chamber Competition in Three Scenes in Bydgoszcz. In 2015, they won the Societe Generale scholarship, which enabled them to record this album.

Their repertoire includes numerous arrangements of jazz songs, klezmer and classical pieces but the artists’ primary focus is the promotion of original compositions for the accordion and clarinet. Particular attention is given to new Polish literature, which is why an important part of their work is cooperation with composers of the younger generation, such as Andrzej Karałow, Wojciech Kostrzewa, Marcin Piotr Łopacki, Zuzanna Falkowska and Dominik Lasota.

The musicians take an active part in concerts organized by the Polish Composers’ Union and the Department of Composition of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music. They are invited to various festivals and perform at home and abroad in venues such as the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the Belvedere Palace, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Royal Łazienki Park, the Polish Library in Paris, as well as numerous community art centres and schools as part of their educational activity.
